GRADEL will produce parts for European Defence Maritime Application
.
The ADMIRABLE project—Additive Manufacturing of Composite-based Fire-resistant Materials for Stealth, Ballistic Lightweight Armored Structures—is a European defense initiative focused on the innovative design of multilayer composite materials for critical components in naval platforms. Its primary goal is to enhance European naval superiority by reducing ship vulnerability and increasing resilience against emerging disruptive threats.
ADMIRABLE will enhance European naval vessel capabilities by investing in advanced additive manufacturing technologies and composite based with fire resistant materials for stealth, Ballistic Lightweight armoured structures.
ADMIRABLE is a pioneering European initiative focused on developing next-generation multifunctional materials for naval platforms. The project aims to significantly enhance the operational capabilities of future vessels by reducing size, weight, power consumption, and cost (SWaP-C), while improving stealth, thermal resistance, fire protection, and ballistic shielding. These innovations will strengthen resilience against modern threats and contribute to safer, more efficient maritime operations.
Beyond technical excellence, ADMIRABLE embodies a commitment to sustainability and international cooperation. By leveraging cutting-edge technologies and fostering strong partnerships among leading European companies, the project ensures that our solutions meet the highest performance standards while promoting responsible production and long-term environmental stewardship.

On January 20–21, the ADMIRABLE consortium gathered at Fraunhofer IAPT (Hamburg) for a constructive and inspiring technical workshop. Over two days, partners from across Europe came together to align on materials, processes, and evaluation methodologies that will guide the next steps of our work.
The workshop offered:
Deep‑dive discussions on material selection, process evaluation, and multi‑layer protection concepts
Collaborative sessions bringing together expertise from additive manufacturing, materials engineering, and structural design
A valuable opportunity to strengthen coordination across work packages and set clear next steps for 2026
A big thank you to our hosts at Fraunhofer IAPT for the excellent organization, warm welcome, and the opportunity to visit their impressive facilities. It was a pleasure to exchange knowledge and move the project forward together.
Looking forward to continuing this productive collaboration and to the exciting milestones ahead for ADMIRABLE.
