50th Edition of the Manager's Strategic Meetings

organized by BSPK & hosted by GRADEL SARL in Luxembourg

General Pierre de Villiers

We are pleased to invite you to the 50th edition of the Manager's Strategic Meetings, organized by BSPK, hosted by GRADEL.

On this occasion, we have the honor of hosting renowned French General Pierre de Villiers at our facility. He will give a conference followed by an open discussion about the direction of the world and the importance of strategy, risk management, and the relationship to time.

General Pierre de Villiers has commanded forces in France and abroad.

He also served on the Army General Staff, as well as in the Ministry of Defense’s Financial Affairs Directorate.

Appointed Chief of the Prime Minister’s Military Staff in 2008, Pierre de Villiers served as the Prime Minister’s advisor on defense matters until 2010, and from 2014 to 2017, he served as Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces.

Pierre de Villiers has authored four books: Servir (2017), What Is a Leader? (2018), Balance Is Courage (2020), and Words of Honor (2022).

He spoke in 2019 at the inaugural “Rencontres Stratégiques du Manager” and returned to Luxembourg in March 2021 for the 8th edition.

General de Villiers wished to return to shed light on the international situation and the national context in France:

“I have never stopped warning about the accelerating pace of global change, and I have remained in touch with reality—which gives me every right to write truthfully about what I foresee and feel. Today, I hope it is not too late.”

We have entered a new world. The old one was more or less regulated by international organizations and the rule of law. We have now entered the era of the law of force.

The organization of the world is shifting into the hands of the major powers. That is why we must rearm. If we do not respond forcefully, we will be the weakest in the world, and thus prey to the strongest.

During this conference and debate, we will develop a strategic analysis and a roadmap for addressing contemporary threats.

General Pierre de Villiers believes that there are “two types of courage.”

We must distinguish between “everyday” courage—which many people demonstrate—and what he calls “great courage.” The latter consists of the ability to “decide, make tough choices, lead, and unite.”

Exercising authority is exercising courage.
