The CART Antenna is a high-precision ground communications system developed to strengthen deep-space tracking, telemetry, and command capabilities for missions supported by the European Space Agency. Designed for exceptional pointing accuracy, structural stability, and high signal sensitivity, the antenna undergoes an extensive verification and validation campaign prior to operational deployment. This includes RF performance characterization, mechanical alignment checks, environmental testing such as vibration and thermal assessments, and full system compatibility tests with mission control infrastructure to ensure reliability under operational conditions.

Before installation at its operational site, the antenna system is carefully integrated and tested within controlled cleanroom environments to prevent contamination and protect sensitive components. Specialized ground support equipment (GSE) is used throughout the process, including precision transport trolleys, air-cushion or rail-guided handling systems, lifting fixtures, and custom structural supports designed to safely move the antenna between assembly areas, cleanrooms, and dedicated test facilities. Controlled handling procedures, alignment tooling, and metrology systems ensure structural integrity and calibration accuracy are maintained during every transfer. This rigorous preparation guarantees that the CART Antenna delivers robust, uninterrupted communication performance in support of critical space exploration missions.
